THE BEAUTY THAT LASTS
By Evang. Ajayi Taiye Jeremiah
Praise God! It is a great joy and privilege to bring God's Word to you today. My prayer is that as you read, the Holy Spirit will birth something new within you that will lead to genuine transformation and a closer walk with God.
Everyone may be happy because of what is happening around them, but very few are truly joyful. Happiness is often dependent on circumstances, while joy comes from the Holy Spirit and remains even in difficult seasons.
In the same way, many people may appear beautiful and attractive outwardly, but true beauty comes from within. Today, I want to speak about "The Beauty That Lasts."
There is a beauty that is more precious, more valuable, and more fulfilling than physical appearance. This is the beauty that sustains relationships, strengthens marriages, and makes a person truly attractive before God and man.
I have seen people blessed with remarkable physical beauty, yet their hearts were filled with pride, bitterness, selfish ambition, and an unhealthy craving for material possessions. Physical beauty may attract attention, but inner beauty wins hearts and leaves a lasting impact.
You may spend hours beautifying your face, but if you neglect your spirit through prayer, fellowship with God, and meditation on His Word, the beauty that the world applauds today may eventually fade. Scripture reminds us that human glory is like the flower of the field—it flourishes for a season and then withers away.
The beauty that lasts is the beauty produced by the Holy Spirit. As believers, our lives should reflect the character of Christ. The fruit of the Spirit makes a person shine even in old age, while the works of the flesh make a person unattractive regardless of physical appearance.
The Bible says:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance..." —
When these virtues are present in your life, you become beautiful in God's sight. A loving heart is beautiful. A peaceful spirit is beautiful. Kindness is beautiful. Faithfulness is beautiful. Humility is beautiful.
The world teaches people to focus on outward appearance, but God looks deeper. When the prophet Samuel was sent to anoint a king, God told him:
"Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." —
God is interested in the condition of your heart. A beautiful face without a transformed heart cannot produce lasting fulfillment. However, a heart surrendered to God radiates a beauty that grows stronger with time.
The Apostle Peter also encouraged women to cultivate inner beauty:
"Let it not be that outward adorning... but let it be the hidden man of the heart." —
This principle applies not only to women but to every believer. The hidden person of the heart matters greatly to God.
How to Develop the Beauty That Lasts
1. Spend Time in God's Presence
The more time you spend with God, the more His character is reflected in your life. Moses' face shone after being in God's presence. Prayer beautifies the spirit.
2. Feed on God's Word Daily
The Word cleanses, renews, and transforms the inner man. A believer who consistently studies Scripture develops wisdom, grace, and spiritual attractiveness.
3. Walk in Love
Love is the greatest evidence of spiritual maturity. A loving person is always beautiful regardless of age or appearance.
4. Pursue Humility
Pride destroys beauty, but humility attracts God's favor. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
5. Allow the Holy Spirit to Produce His Fruit in You
Do not merely seek spiritual gifts; seek spiritual character. Character sustains what gifts attract.
Conclusion
Physical beauty is a gift from God, but it is temporary. The beauty of a godly character is eternal and grows brighter with time. Let your focus not only be on what people see on the outside but also on who you are becoming on the inside.
May the Lord beautify your life with His presence, fill you with the fruit of the Spirit, and make you a reflection of His glory in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer:
Father, beautify my life with Your presence. Let the fruit of the Holy Spirit be evident in me. Remove every work of the flesh and help me reflect the character of Christ daily. Let my life radiate Your glory and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
