The Food of the Spirit

  "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." — Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4 Just as food nourishes the physical body, the Word of God and prayer nourish the spirit. Physical food provides the strength and nutrients the body needs to function. A person who is deprived of food becomes weak and unable to carry out daily activities. In the same way, a believer who neglects God's Word and prayer becomes spiritually weak. The Bible speaks of milk for spiritual infants and solid food for the mature . As our physical bodies require healthy meals to grow, our spirit also requires constant nourishment through prayer, meditation, and the study of God's Word. When we pray and spend time meditating on Scripture, we strengthen our inner man.
