BE STILL AND KNOW

 

"The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." — Exodus 14:14

Stillness is one of the greatest expressions of faith. It is not a sign of weakness or passivity; it is confidence that God is in control. When we are still before Him, we acknowledge that He is our Defender, our Guide, and our Deliverer. Those who belong to Christ are under His divine covering, and He is able to keep them from every evil.

Stillness creates an atmosphere where we can hear the voice of God. It is the fruit of the peace that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. Many believers pray, but few remain quiet long enough to hear what God has to say. Prayer is not merely talking to God; it is also listening to Him.

Think about it: when you ask your earthly father for something important, you do not simply speak and walk away. You wait to hear his response, his counsel, or his decision. In the same way, God desires to speak with us even more than we desire to speak with Him. He longs to reveal His will, give us direction, and assure our hearts. A prayer life that never pauses to listen misses a vital part of fellowship with God.

From an early age, around eight years old, I began to experience God speaking to me during times of prayer. He would reveal the great things He had planned for my life and ministry. As I grew older, I found myself continually drawn back to His presence because I wanted to be reminded of His promises. Those moments of communion strengthened my faith and gave me confidence in His calling. God has a master plan for every life. Before you were formed in your mother's womb, He already knew your purpose and had prepared a destiny for you (Jeremiah 1:5). Sadly, many people are in such a hurry that they never take time to discover His plan.

In stillness, hope is renewed, faith is strengthened, and battles are won without striving. God communicates His will to those who wait upon Him, and through this fellowship we grow into spiritual maturity. Remaining in God's presence is one of the greatest keys to hearing His voice.

Many Christians live by chance instead of by divine direction because they have neglected the voice of the Holy Spirit. Through disobedience and unbelief, they grieve Him and become insensitive to His leading. Before some made that business decision, the Holy Spirit warned them, but they ignored His prompting. Before others entered the wrong relationship or marriage, God gave clear instructions, yet they followed their own desires instead of His will. The consequences could have been avoided if they had patiently waited on the Lord.

Stillness brings assurance of purpose. It gives clarity, confidence, and direction. God is honoured when we wait upon Him because it demonstrates our trust in His wisdom above our own understanding. He makes our path clear and reveals the steps we should take.

Sadly, many people live hurried lives. They rush out of bed in the morning, spend the entire day chasing responsibilities, return home exhausted, and fall asleep—only to repeat the same cycle the next day. In the process, they neglect the most important relationship of all: their relationship with God. They major on the minor and minor on the major.

As children of God, spending quality time in His presence is one of our greatest privileges. When you begin your day with God, you receive spiritual direction, wisdom, strength, and peace. Through prayer and fellowship, God aligns your heart with His will and prepares you for the day ahead.

Today, make a deliberate decision to slow down, be still, and wait before the Lord. Let Him fight your battles, guide your decisions, and reveal His perfect will for your life. The voice of God is still speaking to those who are willing to be still enough to listen.
