The Lost Sheep part 1
The Lost Sheep part 1
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15: 1 - 7
Friends, Jesus never desires any to get lost I will love to take this topic as a series and the Lord will touch you in a great way. Who are sheep? Who are lost sheep? What is the danger of a sheep that is lost?
Sheep are God's children because they have shepherds who watch, guide, protect and lead them. On like a goat, who doesn't have shepherds. Sheep that get lost are in danger of the world's wickedness, disception, and traps. The Bible says in 1 John 2:15-17. Do not love the world or the things in the world. ....the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world.
Who are sheep? The sheeps hears the voice of the shepherd (Jesus) and they follow him. If you are a child of God and you don't hear him speak to you you need to check your salvation. God speaks to all his children, he gives daily instructions, he discuss his plans with them, he bring wisdom on every matter with them, he show them opportunities, he shines his light on every matter and he feed them with his word.
If you don't hear his voice ask God for help. In the opening scripture, Jesus left the 99 sheeps who need no repentance and went for the 1 sheep. This shows the love of Jesus and his attention to individuality. Heaven rejoice over one that repents. True repentance is found when Jesus himself reaches out to us. His mercy and love draws us to himself. The sinner and tax collectors were with the master that the scribe and pharisees began to say and murmur of Jesus's relationships with them.
One of the desires of God is that souls be saved and that men come to repentance. The danger of the soul that is lost is like this scenario: years ago when there has not been much civilization has now people live in settlement and and many are times men in those days are hunters the danger is that the could get lost in the forest and for many days they can't find their way back home. The Lost Sheep in our days and context is that you can't find your way, you suffer, in hunger and confusion the Jesus shows mercy and come looking for us.
In the that biblical context, the sheep did not come looking for the shepherd, it was the shepherd that sought for the Sheep. The Bible says behold, I come knocking at your door and if anyone hears my voice and opens I will come in and sup with him. Religious is man looking for God, Christianity is God looking for man. Jesus comes to us in several ways he comes through is word, he comes through reading an text like this, he comes through many other means.
