“Comparing themselves among themselves, and measuring themselves by themselves, they are not wise.” — 2 Corinthians 10:12

It is foolish to compare yourself with others because no two journeys are exactly the same. Just as our fingerprints are unique and different, so are our journeys, seasons, assignments, and destinies.

God rules and reigns in the affairs of men. He determines the times and seasons of every person. Therefore, you must learn to trust God’s process for your life instead of measuring your progress by the lives of others.

Some people will arrive early, while others will arrive later. Some will experience certain things in their youth, while others will experience them much later in life. Jesus began His earthly ministry around the age of thirty, while many others in Scripture were called and used by God at different stages of their lives. God is not limited by age, timing, or human expectations.

Never allow another person's life to become the standard by which you measure yourself.

The Bible says:

«“But, as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.’” — 1 Corinthians 2:9»

There is a glorious destiny for everyone who is in Christ. Your journey may not look like someone else's, but that does not mean God has forgotten you.

I once met a man who was struggling deeply with life. One of the major battles he faced was addiction to hard drugs. Almost everything he earned was consumed by his addiction and other challenges. His life seemed trapped in a cycle he could not break.

I shared Jesus Christ with him, and he surrendered his life to Christ. Through Christ, he experienced deliverance and began a new journey. Today, he is a faithful disciple of Jesus, reaching others with the same gospel that transformed his life.

His story reminds me that God does not need to follow another person's pattern to transform your life.

JESUS CHRIST IS OUR STANDARD

The purpose of today's message is simple: Jesus Christ should be our ultimate standard—not other people, not even the prophets and great men of old. Our eyes must remain fixed on Jesus.

Hebrews 1:1–3 says:

«“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son…”»

Jesus is the fullest revelation of who God is. He is the One we should look to, follow, imitate, and become more like.

Jesus said:

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” — John 14:6

When we continually look to Jesus, we are transformed into His image.

What you behold, you become.

Jesus called His disciples to come and be with Him before sending them out. There is a powerful lesson in this: before you can effectively represent Jesus, you must learn to remain with Jesus.

To be with Jesus is to sit with His Word, study His ways, observe His character, and allow His teachings to shape your life.

The Word of God gives us the right standard for self-examination.

COMPARE YOURSELF WITH THE WORD

If you must compare yourself, don't compare yourself with flesh and blood. Compare your life with the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 says:

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

The Word of God teaches us, corrects us, rebukes us, trains us, and prepares us for God's purpose.

Instead of asking, “Why am I not like this person?” ask:

“Am I becoming more like Jesus?”

Instead of asking, “Why don't I have what they have?” ask:

“Am I walking faithfully in what God has given me?”

Instead of looking at another person's timeline and becoming discouraged, look into God's Word and allow Him to reveal what needs to change in you.

Your brother's testimony should inspire you, not make you despise your own journey.

Someone else's success does not mean you have failed.

Someone else's marriage does not mean God has forgotten you.

Someone else's ministry does not mean your calling is insignificant.

Someone else's breakthrough does not mean your testimony will never come.

God has a unique journey for you.

DON'T LIMIT GOD BY COMPARISON

When you constantly compare yourself with others, you can unconsciously place a limit on what God can do in your life.

You begin to tell God how your life should look because you have measured yourself against another person's life.

But God is the author of your story.

The Bible tells us to look unto Jesus, “the founder and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2).

Jesus is our standard.

Jesus is our example.

Jesus is our focus.

Jesus is our destination.

Don't spend your life trying to become another person when God has called you to become more like Christ.

Your journey is different.

Your timing is different.

Your assignment is different.

Your testimony will be different.

So, stop comparing.

Look to Jesus.

Follow Jesus.

Learn from Jesus.

Remain in His Word.

And allow the Holy Spirit to transform you into the person God has called you to become.

You don't need to be another person. You only need to become everything God has designed you to be in Christ.

Don't compare yourself with others. Compare yourself with Christ.
