In our last series, we began discussing the topic of overcoming sexually impure thoughts. I shared my personal struggles with this issue and talked about Joseph's experience and how he resisted the advances of Potiphar's wife. Today, I will share how I overcame these thoughts with the help of God.

Unable to help myself, I began seeking the Lord's face, praying, and attending deliverance meetings. It was a battle. Sometimes I would be temporarily free from these thoughts for weeks or months, only to fall back into them. I realized that I needed to be intentional and adopt practical habits to break free from this problem.

IT WAS A MATTER OF THE HEART

As the saying goes, "the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart." Since it was a matter of my heart, I embarked on what I call an Intentional Heart Transformation through the word of God. The Bible tells us in Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

From this scripture, it became clear to me that what I struggled with was a product of conforming to the world's standards. Pornographic movies, magazines, sites, and blogs all conform to the standards of this world. It is even worse now with the various content we consume for entertainment through social media, music, films on Netflix, and sexually appealing attire. These are all properties of the world, which it uses to conform us to its standards.

After I gave my life to Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I knew there was no automatic fix to this. The transformation of a corrupted mind requires the word of God as a tool through constant meditation. Every morning, I meditate on the word of God because, although we are in the world, we are not of it. Until we leave this world, we must constantly meditate upon the word of God, drawing strength from it daily. Gradually, I began to break free from the grip of this stronghold.

Daily prayer is the second key to helping our hearts. Our hearts, or minds, are like fields. Without intentional cultivation, weeds will grow, rendering the ground unproductive. However, when the owner cultivates the field, it becomes useful to both the owner and those around him. This takes effort, including:

- Cutting the weeds

- Applying fertilizer (if necessary)

- Planting

- Watering

- Constantly keeping off the weeds

- Harvesting

These efforts must continue yearly to avoid hunger. This illustration emphasizes that it takes effort to keep your mind alive and in check because, without this, the devil will sow his own tares and weeds. This must be a constant effort until we see Jesus in glory.

In a nutshell, prayer and meditation on the word of God are two key tools for keeping your heart transformed and free from sexually impure thoughts.

GET BUSY

Many find themselves trapped in chronic masturbation because they have nothing to do. An idle mind is the devil's workshop. When I say get busy, I mean finding and committing to the purpose God has called you to. Years ago, when the Lord asked me to resign and focus on my calling to speak, write, and counsel the younger generation, I became so occupied that sometimes I forgot to eat. There was no time for the devil to use me. What is your assignment in life? Are you committed to achieving it? This is a strong way to break free from the grip of sexually impure thoughts and their consequences.

By God's grace, I will share the final point in the last series (part 3). Jesus loves you. Amen!
