Christ: The Lord

 

“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.” — John 13:13

“For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.” — 2 Corinthians 4:5

Jesus Christ is not only our Saviour; He must also be our Lord. Salvation brings us into a relationship with Christ, but true Christianity means surrendering our lives to His lordship.

The true mark of a Christian is not merely saying, “Jesus is my Saviour,” but willingly submitting to Him as Lord of all. When Christ is Lord, He takes the lead and we follow. We do not follow Him only when His instructions are convenient or agreeable to us; we follow Him because He is Lord.

In Exodus 9:1, God told Pharaoh to let His people go so that they might serve Him. Israel was not delivered from Egypt simply to live for themselves; they were delivered so that they could belong to God and serve Him. In the same way, Christ has delivered us from the bondage of sin so that our lives may belong completely to Him.

As believers, we are servants—even bondservants—of Christ. Our lives are no longer governed by our own desires, ambitions, and plans. We surrender our will to the will of our Master. Jesus said:

“If you love me, keep my commands.” — John 14:15

Consider someone who enters an apprenticeship to learn a trade or craft. He submits himself to his master, learns from him, follows his instructions, and does what he is told. He does not constantly argue with the master about every instruction. He understands that submission is part of the learning process.

How much more should we submit ourselves to Christ, our Lord and Master?

If He says, “Go,” we go.
If He says, “Stay,” we stay.
If He says, “Speak,” we speak.
If He says, “Be silent,” we remain silent.
If He says, “Go to another country and begin a fellowship,” we obey.

Our responsibility is not to negotiate with the Lord but to obey Him.

There is a beautiful Christian song that says, “Where He leads me, I will follow.” That should be the posture of every believer. We may not always understand where He is taking us, but we can trust the One who is leading us.

You will never make a mistake by sincerely following Jesus.

The Christian life is a life of surrender. We do not come to Christ to make Him fit into our plans; we surrender our plans to Him. We do not ask Jesus to follow us; we follow Jesus. He is the Lord, and we are His servants.

Christ Must Be Lord in Every Area of Our Lives

Christ's lordship must extend beyond Sunday worship or church activities. He must be Lord over our career, finances, relationships, decisions, marriage, family, ministry, and future.

If Jesus is truly Lord, then we must allow His Word to guide our choices.

This is especially important in marriage. Scripture teaches that Christ is the head of the man, and the husband is called to lead his wife under Christ's authority (1 Corinthians 11:3; Ephesians 5:23). Therefore, a man cannot properly lead his wife if he refuses to submit himself to the leadership of Christ.

A husband who wants to lead his home must first learn to follow Jesus. His leadership should not be based on pride, domination, or selfishness, but on the sacrificial love of Christ. As Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her, the husband is called to love his wife sacrificially.

When Christ is truly Lord of a home, His Word becomes the foundation, His love becomes the standard, and His wisdom becomes the guide. Such a home can experience the peace, joy, and order that come from walking according to God's will.

Jesus must not only be the One who saves you; He must be the One who leads you.

Do not merely receive Christ as Saviour and then live according to your own will. Make Him Lord.

Surrender your plans to Him.
Surrender your ambitions to Him.
Surrender your relationships to Him.
Surrender your future to Him.
Surrender your entire life to Him.

He is not simply a Saviour to rescue you from hell. He is the Lord who deserves your complete obedience.

Christ is the Lord. Let Him lead, and follow Him.
