The Grace of God’s Presence
_And He said, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest._ Exodus 33:14 The journey before Moses was a herculean one. How does a man lead a people who are stubborn, unyielding, and constantly longing to return to Egypt? Moses understood that labouring without God’s presence would amount to futility. Even when God promised to send an angel, Moses refused because he knew that what truly makes the difference in a man’s life is the presence of God. That is why no one should embark on any journey in life based on assumption; we must consciously ask for His divine presence. For Moses, the only thing that would distinguish Israel from all other nations was God going with them. Otherwise, they preferred to remain where they were (Exodus 33:15). The presence of God upon a person is proof that such a one has found grace in His sight, and that they are set apart from the rest of the world (Exodus 33:16).
